How to choose the right size
Measure around the waist and around the widest part of the hips. Choose the size that matches the larger of the two measurements. Women often need to size by hips rather than waist, so check both.
If you fall between two sizes, pick the smaller one for a snug fit at the legs and waist. A diaper that is too large will gap and leak. A diaper that is too tight can rub the skin. Our adult diaper size chart lists waist and weight ranges for every size.
When women use adult diapers
Adult diapers are not only for very old people. Women use them for many reasons, including:
- Bladder leakage after childbirth
- Urgency or leakage during and after menopause
- Leaks when coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercising
- Reduced mobility in older age
- Recovery after surgery
- Long journeys where toilets are hard to reach
A diaper manages leaks but does not treat the cause. If leakage is new, getting worse or comes with pain or other symptoms, speak to a gynaecologist or urologist. For a general overview of the types and causes of incontinence, see the NHS guide to urinary incontinence.
Comfort and skin care
A few habits keep skin comfortable when you wear a diaper regularly:
- Change as soon as the diaper is wet or soiled, and at least every few hours
- Clean the skin gently and dry it fully before putting on a fresh one
- Pick the right size, since a poor fit causes both leaks and rubbing
- Keep drinking normal amounts of water. Cutting back on fluids does not reduce leaks and can irritate the bladder

Frequently asked questions
Are these adult diapers made for women?
They are unisex adult diapers that work for women and men. Use the size guide to find the right fit for your waist and hips.
Which is better for women, pants or tape style?
Pants suit women who are mobile and change on their own. Tape style suits women who are bedridden or need help changing. Compare adult diaper pants and tape-style adult diapers.
How often should I change an adult diaper?
Change it when it is wet or soiled, and at least every few hours during the day.
Can I wear adult diapers under a saree or leggings?
Choose the right size, because a diaper that is too big creates bulk. Pants style is the easiest to wear under everyday clothing.
Can I use a sanitary pad instead of an adult diaper for urine leaks?
Sanitary pads are made for menstrual flow, not for sudden urine leaks, and they can overflow quickly. For moderate to heavy leakage, an adult diaper gives more reliable protection.
